B.A.L. Degree Course, Post Graduate Diploma Courses and Certificate Courses

        The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University was established in 1997 in pursuance of the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University Act 1996. This premier University is endowed with the authority to grant affiliation to Law Colleges and to promote Legal education and to disseminate knowledge in legal education and therefor institute Degrees, Diplomas and other distinctions in Law.

         The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University is a Member of the following National and International Associations

Objective of the Distance Education Programme:

     The object of offering various legal studies through Distance Education Mode is to enable a person to acquire knowledge in the field of Law and also use that knowledge in any career associated with the field of study chosen. The courses offered now have been designed to include not only the study of the conventional subject taught in Law Colleges but also subjects which are gaining importance in the developing scenario of the Country. This approach is intended to enable an aspirant to acquaint himself with legal knowledge and to further that legal knowledge in his career in a developing nation.

I. B.A.L. Degree Course:

     This Course has been designed for a period of 3 years including the study of conventional subjects and also covering subjects of current importance. Any person acquiring this degree may find himself suitable for a position in any corporate or institution requiring specialized knowledge in a particular field.

     A person acquiring this degree, however, is not eligible to seek enrolment as an Advocate in the Bar Councils and he/she is not eligible to seek admission for further studies in any Master’s Degree Programme in Law either in this University or any of the affiliated Colleges.

1. Duration of the Course: 3 Years – Non-Semester Pattern

     This Course is offered as a Calendar Year Programme commencing from January of an year and ending with the month of December of that year.

3. Qualification for Admission

     An applicant shall be a Degree holder in any discipline including degrees obtained through Correspondence Course/Open Mode of Study and also those who have obtained Master Degree under the Open University System.

4.Mode of Selection

     Candidate desirous of joining this B.A.L. Degree Course shall submit an application in the prescribed form alongwith required testimonials. The selection will be based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examinations and other data given in the application form and as evidenced in the testimonials. There will be no written Entrance Examination.

II. Post Graduate Diploma Courses

     The following Post Graduate Diploma Courses are offered through Distance Education Mode. These have been designed to enable a person to become a specialized Diploma holder in a particular field of legal knowledge.

1. Duration of Course:

The duration of a Diploma Course is 1 year commencing from January of an year and ending with the month of December of that year.

3.Qualification for Admission:

     A graduate in any discipline either of University of Madras or any other Universities accepted and equivalent there to by the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University is eligible to join any of the Diploma Courses offered. Besides this, any person who is undergoing 5 year (Regular) Degree Courses in Law in any of the affiliated Law Colleges may also apply, but those students must have passed the 3rd year of the 5 year (Regular) Law Degree Course and have become eligible to receive B.A. (Academic) Law Degree from the Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University.

4. Mode of Selection

     Candidate desirous of joining this P.G.Diploma Course shall submit an application in the prescribed form alongwith required testimonials. The selection will be based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examinations and other data given in the application form and as evidenced in the testimonials. There will be no written Entrance Examination.

III. Certificate Courses

     The Certificate Courses offered have been designed to cover subject matter which is of current importance and which form the basics of activities. Awareness in these subject-matters will enable a person to equip himself with specialized knowledge thereby enable him to pursue a vocation of his/her choice.

     The following courses are offered:

Certificate Course in Documentation

Paper I	:	General Principles of Property Law and Succession
Paper II	:	Principles of Registration Act and Rules
Paper III	:	The Stamp Act and Related Laws
Paper IV	:	Practical : Drafting of Conveyances

1.Duration of Course:

The duration of the Certificate Course is 6 months commencing from January and ending with June and from July to December.

3.Qualification for Admission:

     Any person who has successfully completed the Higher Secondary Examinations (10+2 Examinations) conducted in the State of Tamil Nadu and any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto.

4. Mode of Selection

     Candidate desirous of joining this Certificate Course shall submit an application in the prescribed form alongwith required testimonials. The selection will be based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examinations and other data given in the application form and as evidenced in the testimonials. There will be no written Entrance Examination.

1. ADMISSION PROCEDURE:

     On receipt of completed Application Form by the University alongwith the required enclosures and a Demand Draft for the total amount payable the candidate’s name will be registered and admission will be granted provisionally for the course applied for.

2. SUPPLY OF STUDY MATERIALS (Common to B.A.L./Diploma/ Certificate Course):

     The University shall supply study material prepared by subject experts approved by the University and which will be instrumental for learning. These materials will be supplied either immediately on admission or when the first Personal Contact Programme is conducted.

3. CONDUCT OF PERSONAL CONTACT PROGRAMME:

     The University shall arrange the conduct of Personal Contact Programmes as may be decided by the University Authorities. The Personal Contact Programme may be held either at Chennai or in any other place within Tamil Nadu, which shall be decided based on the total no. of candidates joining the course from one place. The Personal Contact Programme will be settled by the Director, Department of Distance Education and the candidates will be informed suitably and well in advance.

     The candidates joining any of these courses shall attend a total no. of 50% of the programmes conducted so as to enable him/her to qualify for the examination.

4. CONDUCT OF UNIVERSITY EXAMINATIONS AND CLASSIFICATION OF STUDENTS:

     The University shall conduct Examinations for the respective courses at the end of the year of the course or at the end of the 6th month for the Certificate Course.

     Candidates who will be securing more than 60% shall be placed in First Class and those who secured between 50% and 59% shall be placed in the Second Class.

     All others are deemed to have failed in the Examinations.

Application Forms and Information Bulletin can be obtained for the above said courses on payment of prescribed fees from the Registrar, the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, “Poompozhil”, 5, P.S. Kumarasamy Raja Salai, Chennai – 600 028. The Application Form, Registration Fees, etc., shall be payable only in the form of Demand Draft obtained from any Nationalized Bank in favour of “The Registrar, the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University” and payable at Chennai.
